A NEW Look at The Trendy Bed!

The Trendy Bed Get’s a face lift…

The Trendy Bed was started in August, 2008 all because I couldn’t find a BLACK bed skirt for my son’s bed and in these three years it has grown from just bed skirts to a full on-line bedding store.   Never to forgot my original idea you can still get bed skirts in over 20 some colors, fabric choices, custom drop lengths, styles, and designs but now with matching comforters, quilts, duvet covers, and shams for a complete Trendy Bed look.

The Trendy Bed has been with Mayfield Manufacturing from the beginning bringing us our custom sizes, 2-Tone comforters, and matching window treatment.

Also new at The Trendy Bed is some new bedding styles from Royal Plaza Textiles, Royal Plaza Textiles brings us our great Egyptian Cotton bedding along with beautiful Duvet Cover Sets and this fall some beautiful Comforter sets in the new Fall colors.

With the Winter months soon approaching it’s time to get those heavy Down Comforters out.   The Trendy Bed has a great selection of Down and Alternative Down comforters and pillows in Light, Medium, and Heavy weight from Royal Plaza and Downright.

At The Trendy Bed we strive to give our customers a complete shopping experience bringing you new products from some old traditions taught to them by their parents in the skill of weaving America’s favorite terry / candlewick and matelasse bedspreads from Maine Heritage Weavers.

Our newest addition to The Trendy Bed is our partnership with Taylor Linens here in Southern California.   We feel we have found a quality of bedding that will last for years, if not generations with their beautiful Quilts,  Duvet Covers, Shams, Sheets, and Bed Skirts.

White Laura's Quilt

Hope you enjoy the new look of The Trendy Bed along with our new products,  keep coming back as I am always working to bring you new products and new ideas.

Sincerely,

Planning a Nursery?

I just found out I’m going to be a Grandmother so that sparked in interest in Nurseries again!

Planning a Nursery should be fun, just don’t wait till the last month to do it all.

This is not a “how too”,  this is just a great collection of  AWESOME  nurseries to be inspired and get the imagination going!

Baby Gone MOD!

By avoiding pastels you can create a place that can change easily as baby becomes a toddler.

Simple and Elegant

I don’t know about you but I wish I had a room like this when I was a new Mother, this is beautiful.   Nursery with a View, creating a soothing space accommodates both parents and child without sacrificing style.

Lovely Nursery

This crib it beautiful and commands  “Look At Me”,  beautiful floral carpeting harmonizes with the upholstery and valance.

Decor is the star of this Nursery

Beautiful mixture of pale pink, tan, and sage green along with some dark antique furniture for a beautiful blend of New and Old!  This room also is ready for growth going from baby to toddler with ease.

Baby's gone Paisley

I loved the bright colors and that window seat, makes a great Nursery and a beautiful room to grow up in.

Dreamy Nights

Cuddly chenille bedding and a white netting over the crib gives this room a sense of softness.  Notice the beautiful leaded glass design for a beautiful finishing touch to a beautifully done nursery.

Cheerful and heavenly!

Cheerful yellows and heavenly blues beam brightly in this  Beatrix Potter inspired nursery.  With a cloud dusted sky mural covering the ceiling and partway down the walls, this nursery works well for a baby boy or girl.

Storybook Nursery

Another beautiful Nursery using Sage, Mauve, and Cream for a bright cheerful room.

Fill it with TOYS!

I had to pull this picture into my mix because my Son and Daughter-In-Law’s old 1890′s home has walls like these and with using one’s imagination and being creative and most of all having fun I’m sure they will create a Nursery just an wonderful as the one’s I showed today.

I hope you enjoyed my grouping of wonderful Nurseries,  I know not all new parents have the resources to create beautiful rooms like these Nurseries,  but the most important thing is to have fun putting it together and fill it with LOVE!

I would like to thank Better Homes and Gardens for these great pictures and decorating suggestions – these can all be found on BHG.com

Thank You,

Cathy

Tips for Remodeling A Bedroom

The Trendy Home has the pleasure of another guest blogger,  Megan Gates;  Megan Gates is an active blogger who provides written work to the blogosphere pertaining to NY Rentals . The Hamptons, home improvement and the latest architecture, design and fashion. Follow her on twitter @MEGatesDesign.

Whether people remodel bedrooms for upgrading resale value of the house or just for their own comfort and pleasure, remodels can be fun.  Showcasing the room’s shape and aura with a mixture of color and texture not only adds beauty, but it adds personality to the room.

Transforming a bedroom with classical overtones or pure whimsy reflects the bedroom’s tenant in all his imaginative glory. It makes the people who enter the room want to remain to enjoy its effects.

Windows

Aside from space, the focus of any room will be its windows.  Windows allow light into a room while letting you enjoy the outdoors inside.  Window treatments are going to be important, therefore, in highlighting the beauty of the windows.

Conservatory blinds:  These are produced with reflective backing to block the sun’s harmful rays while letting in the light.  They can be made to order in any color, in addition to a variety of styles,  from roller blinds to woven to pleated blinds.

Folding shutters:  Unlatch the hook, fold back the shutters, and let the sun shine in.

Swags:  Swags can be arranged in pleats, folds or multiple hangings over rattan blinds, sheers or curtains.

Lighting

Since bedrooms aren’t usually lit brightly for specific purposes, such as reading or sewing, the lighting is generally soft.  Lamps will be found typically for this purpose, or perhaps the light attached to a ceiling fan.

Recessed cans:  Recessed lighting provides the softness generally found in bedrooms, and they can be brightened with a twist of the switch.

Track lighting: This, too, can be brightened or dimmed as desired and adds panache to any room.

Tree lamps:  If you’re going to have a lamp, make a statement.  The cans or arms can be positioned to light up corners for reading or sewing, or just add a glow to a room.

Flooring

Carpeting: Any upgrade to a house includes carpeting. But you can also think outside the box
Hardwood floors: Sprinkle them with area rugs in matching shades to your bed linens and watch the room come together.

Vinyl tile: This, too, can be strewn with area rugs, but you might not want the pretty pattern of the tile to be covered up.

Walls

Walls are fun. They can be outlined with a border, cut a niche into them for any purpose at all, such as holding a few books or collectible dolls, or walls can be built out to contain a corner fireplace/entertainment center. Walls can be lit with sconces to showcase paintings or they can support candelabra for a romantic evening.

Furnishings

Lighten up a room sporting dark woods in dressers, chests of drawers, armories or headboards with champagne satin coverlets for the bed and matching hangings for the window treatments.

Area rugs on the hardwood or tiled floors can add the freshness of a garden with floral patterns in light colors. Fabrics and pretty blankets can be mounted on walls like a tapestry. If the room’s tenant aimed the lighting at these things, the room would look fresh and lovely.

Remodeling a bedroom,  for comfort or for resale value, is all about focus. Making the room look fresh and new is about color and texture, woods and fabrics, lighting and imaginative combinations. It’s about aura and personality. You might not even want to sell the house.

Thank you Megan for your blog, great tips and ideas for The Trendy Home readers, thanks to Better Homes and Gardens for some of the great pictures  I used to showcase Megan’s tips.

Trendy Bedroom Designs

Create a relaxing and beautiful haven with these trendy bedroom tips;  add color and texture with bedding and window treatments.   Add character with furniture, and light and sparkle with mirrors.

If you have been following The Trendy Home you know I love to bring you pictures of beautiful homes and great decorating ideas that you can incorporate into your own Trendy Home.  Hope you enjoy these new pictures, and some old favorites.

A Touch of Class:   I found this one on Better Homes and Gardens,  Architectural relics, such as this dramatic old bar mirror to make a great beautiful headboard.  The oversize scale of the piece works in this room because the mirror reflects so much light, giving the appearance of spaciousness.   White matelasse  linens add interesting texture while allowing the mirror to shine.

Add Class with Glass

Do you live by the Beach?  This next picture is a beautiful “Beachy” bedroom that is not overdone.   The white beaded boards and navy walls make a beautiful frame for this handsome bedroom inspired by the beach.   Shell artwork and accessories reinforce the theme but it’s not over the top.  Beautiful, elegant, and inviting.    Check out our Black and White Bed in a Bag by Royal’s Hotel Collection to help you achieve the same look as in the picture below.

Bliss at the Beach

When Two Bed are better than one!     I love this look, can you tell which one is the Ladies Bed, and which one is the Mens?   Ruffled Shams vs Tailored Shams is a nice little decorating tip to separate the sexes.     Twin beds aligned along the same wall naturally lend themselves to a symmetrical scheme — are always pleasing to the eye.    Underscore the effect by dressing the beds with matching bedding  and treating the wall space above the headboards in the same manner.    Anchor the center of the duo with a singe table for this beautiful look.

When Two are better than One!

Top Ten Decorating Tips

Decorating by Numbers!

Getting your measurements right the first time will make everyone happy!   How many times do we do something and then say,  “That doesn’t look good!”   or it needs to higher, or lower?  I know I have done it more than once.  I came across this Decorate by Numbers! – Get your measurements right in the House Beautiful magazine and wanted to share it with my readers,  Thank you House Beautiful – you are an awesome magazine and great decorating tips and articles.

36 inch wide rectangular table

1.  Know your tables:  A 36 inch wide rectangular table is perfect for conversation.  A Round table with a diameter of 48 inches seats six;  a 60 inch round will handle eight standard dinning chairs or 10 ballroom chairs.

48 Inch Round Table

2.  How big should an overhead light fixture be?  Just add the length and width of the room in feet, and whatever number you come up with is, in inches, your guide for the fixture’s diameter.  So a 15-by-20 foot room would need a 35 inch wide chandelier.

3.  One gallon of paint will cover about 400 square feet of wall.

Mount Curtains as high as possible to add height to any room.

4.   Mount curtains as high as possible to give the room more height, and let them break 1 1/2 inches on the floor.

5.  Kitchen island should be about 38 inches high – a little taller than the counter tops to be comfortable for food preparation.

6.  Curtains should be  2 1/2  to 3 times the width of the window.  So if you’re doing two panels, each should be 1 1/4  to 1 1/2 times the window width.

Curtans - perfect Height and Width.

Purchase a curtain rod that is 20 inches wider than your window so it extends 10 inches on either side.  Your window will seem much wider than it really it.

Dining Room Chandelier 36 inches above the table

7.  The bottom of a dining-room chandelier should hand 36 inches above the table.   This is actually my  home and I checked my chandelier and I was 35 7/8″ – got lucky on that one!

8.  Install light switches 36 inches above the floor and 1 1/2 to 2 inches to the side of the door trim.

9.  For a standard 84″ inch sofa with exposed legs and a tight back, you’ll need 14 yards of plain 54 inch wide fabric.  Add two yards for skirt.

10.   From Classical times to today, the golden ratio has always been the perfect proportion:  1 to 1.62.   At least since the Renaissance, many artists and architects have proportioned their works to approximate the golden ratio—especially in the form of the golden rectangle, in which the ratio of the longer side to the shorter is the golden ratio—believing this proportion to be aesthetically pleasing.

Hope you learned something new about decorating, I know I did when I read it.

The Facts on Cotton Bedding…

Is it really all about Thread Count?

THREAD COUNT: Simply put, this is the number of threads per square inch. both vertical and horizontal, in a one-inch square of fabric. Hold the sheet up to the light, if you can see through the fabric and make out the actual weave, you’ve got a low thread count on your hands. The higher the thread count (or tc), the softer and more lustrous the fabric, and the more durable and less prone to shrinkage.

PERCALE: A smooth, flat, closely woven and combed fabric that comes in 100% cotton or 50/50 cotton/poly blends.  Finer than muslin, expect TC’s here to range from 180-250.

Raspberry Minotte Set by Taylor Linens @ The Trendy Bed.com

PIMA or SUPIMA: A high quality cotton whose long fiber staple is somewhat similar to that of Egyptian cotton. The differences are geographical only. Pima is grown in the southwestern part of the U.S. and Egyptian is grown along the Nile River. Supima is made from extra-long staple Pima. The soft hand feel of Pima and Supima make them very desirable in bedding. Expect to find TC’s here from 200-300.

Crisp White Cotton Sheets @ The Trendy Bed.com

EGYPTIAN COTTON:  This is the cotton queen of the Nile.  Grown alongside the river, this quintessential cotton owes its superior durability, luster, and silky hand feel to its extra long fiber staple. TC counts range from 200-1000.

Egyptian Cotton at it's Best!

SATEEN: a weave construction that has more yarn surface on the face of the cloth than other basic weaves giving a softer hand and more lustrous look.

I hope we all got a little more information on The Facts of Cotton and thread count.

Celebrity Lighting…

Let’s share some Lighting with the Celebrities…

Please welcome another guest blogger to The Trendy Home,  Emily Chadwick from Arcadian Lighting.

Celebrities often provide fodder for the style pages of Vogue, Marie Claire and Esquire, but some of them maintain such chicness and style in their homes as well.  In the pages of Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, etc. our favorite celebrities proudly display their beautiful collections of light fixtures, modern furniture and impeccably cared-for antiques. Here is a collection of our favorite celebrity rooms:

Celebrity Rooms

Keri Russell via Elle Décor

When Keri Russell’s Brooklyn abode was featured in the April 2011 issue of Elle Décor, it caused quite a bit of fanfare among shelter bloggers. Why? Because it is a chic, feminine yet modern space that looked so cozy and welcoming. This living room, for instance, featured an Ochre pendant light, linen-upholstered armchairs and gorgeous sheer mauve curtains.

Celebrity Rooms

Betsey Johnson via Elle Decor UK

An apartment this pink and peppy couldn’t belong to anyone else other than the peppy, cartwheeling fashion designer, Betsey Johnson.  Pink may not be for everyone, but if you can get past that initially shocking bright color, you’ll see a truly gorgeous apartment with a lot of great mid-century modern pieces.  Johnson is shown seated in a William Platner Arm Chair.  In her bedroom is an Arco Floor Lamp and a Saarinen Womb Chair. Truly great pieces that show impeccable taste.

Celebrity Rooms

Erin Fetherson via Vogue

Count Erin Fetherson is yet another fashion designer with a chic, feminine home.  Here she is jumping on her extra large custom-made bed, which is flanked by chinoiserie lamps and vintage nightstands.

Celebrity Rooms

Sheryl Crow via Architectural Digest

Sheryl Crow’s Hollywood home was featured in Architectural Digest earlier this year and it’s another beautifully decorated space.  Shown here, is the singer’s living room which mixes modern and vintage pieces quite well.  For instance, the sofa is modern, while the Italian pendant lights are vintage pieces.

Celebrity Rooms

Michael Feinstein via Architectural Digest

In the office of singer, songwriter and composer Michael Feinstein, is a wall decorated with memorabilia. The salon-style hangings of personally-important photos, articles and autographs is a testament to a successful career. Not only that, but it’s a great way to create an accent wall in any home; just pair it with a couple of arm chairs and side table to complete the look.

It’s always interesting to see celebrity homes — when they’re featured in shelter magazines — how they incorporate their own careers and personalities into their home’s décor and design. It’s a lesson for non-celebs, too, that your home should be filled with the things you love and express who you are.

Content provided by Arcadian Lighting, a site that specializes in top quality lighting fixtures at extremely affordable prices. Come visit us today!

Thank you Emily for your blog on Celebrity rooms and their lighting decor, as we can see they all have their own personality, just like the Celebrity them self.

The Trendy Bed Say’s Thank You!

Taking time to Relax

Where do I start?

This is not the normal The Trendy Home blog, if you have noticed I haven’t been around writing my blogs that I used to LOVE to do much this year!

On January 27 I was diagnosed with Uterine Cancer – Thank You Lord it was only Stage #1 but if you were ever told you have  “CANCER”  at first you think someone just signed your death notice.    It’s all you think about, 24/7.

On February 7th I had my surgery at Hoag Hospital here in Southern California,  complete hysterectomy along with the Lymph nodes  – they wanted to be sure they got it all and I was happy to oblige.

I’m so happy to say I don’t need Chemo or Radiation, all I need is to make sure I get my blood work every three months for the next 2 years, and every 6 months for the following 3 years until I hit that magical “5″ years.

I have been so blessed and I know it;   has there been dark days, sure I’m human but I also know they will pass.   I have seen the power of friends,  family and staying positive.

The Campbell's

My darling Husband.

I know it wasn’t easy on my Husband, his  Parents, and Siblings are all gone and the thought of losing his wife wasn’t something he wanted to even consider!

The YaYa Girls

The Ya Ya Girls

Us Girls just can’t make it in this world without our Best Friends,  these are my best friends:  Michelle, Laura, and Pamela.  Michelle and I were pregnant together 26 years ago,  Laura and I have something in common – Cancer.  She’s fighting her battle as well  and I’m happy to say things are looking up for her too;  and we have so much in common you would think we have been friends for life.   Then there’s Pamela – we have been neighbors for over 15 years now and there was even a move in there,  and they followed us and they are still the best neighbors, family by choice, and friends the Campbell family could ask for.

My Family

Matthew, Lindsey, and Michael

One of the hardest things I had to do was tell my “boy’s” that their Mother had Cancer!   And I add “HAD” cancer!   I’m looking forward to playing with my grandchildren and spooling them rotten and then giving them back!

My life today!    What’s it like living without your body’s thermostat?    I’m always hot or Cold,   NO in between!    Window’s open, ceiling fan on HIGH during the night and most of the time my dear husband is under the covers so tight and I’m on top with nothing on!    It reminds me of the musical  “Menopause“   if you haven’t seen it, it’s a good fun night out with the girls or even the husband.  (Mine laughed so hard!)   But it’s so TRUE!

So, I wanted to say  HI to my readers and I am feeling much better and have gained most of my strength back and ready to write some blogs.

The Trendy Bed has added some new products lately so look forward to some product updates.

There is a good life even after being told you have Cancer – keep it positive and lean on your friends and family, they just might surprise you!

Thank you and much LOVE!

Cathy

xoxo
